Absolutely beautiful silver filigree mezuze most likely from Essaouira or Marrakech. Fine worksmanship and one of the nicest older pieces we’ve found. A rare treasure. 3 1/4" long.

Legal documents drafted in the Jewish community were traditionally rolled up and housed in silver cylinders. This one is both elegant and ornate, showing off the skills of the Jewish silversmith who created it. This antique contract refers to a division of buildings and property, an sale divided among the sons and brothers of the writer. Specific mention is made of land, palmtrees, a small restaurant, and clothing. The currency is in Moroccan dirhams, and the written scroll is 177 years old with family seals on both sides.
