Ancient centers of ceramic artistry were located in Fès, Meknès and Tetouan, eventually to include Safi by the eighteenth century. Other techniques and forms can be traced to the Tafilalte region in the eastern Sahara. Traditional blue and white glazes highlight geometric motifs, providing fine examples of contemporary work. They often include complex metal-work, lending depth and textural variety to the design. Vibrant multicolored platters, bowls, and vases have a jewel-like quality, further enhanced by the urban style of floral and arabesque figures outlined in deep blue or black. We have included superbly hand-painted tea glasses from a small atelier in Marrakech, which cannot be found in any other catalogue, and elegant perfume bottles. Fossilized marble dinnerware, desk appointments, and furniture justify Morocco's international reputation as the center for this unique material. Talented masons excel at constructing polished settings for spiraling goniates, elongated orthoceres cones, and trilobites, many dating back 400 million years.
